Enshrouded is the latest Steam Early Access title and has become quite popular among PC gamers shortly after its release. Since the game is still in development, there are bound to be errors and issues that PC users will experience like the Graphics System Couldn’t Be Initialized error. Aside from this, a lot of PC users are experiencing crashes with the “enshrouded.exe has crashed! A MiniDump has been created” error message. In this Enshrouded guide, I have listed fixes that will help you fix the crashes.
Enshrouded Crash Fixes That’ll Help
PC users report that Enshrouded is crashing randomly while playing or crashing at startup. Some players report the following error message when they launch Enshrouded.
enshrouded.exe has crashed! A MiniDump has been created
There are multiple reasons why Enshroused is crashing and the following are the fixes that’ll help you resolve the “enshrouded.exe has crashed” error, in-game crashes, and crashes at startup.
Enshrouded Crash Fixes That’ll Help
- Delete ReShade Entry From Registry
- Disable Integrated GPU
- Disable GPU Overclock
- Enable Debug Mode
- Add New Environment Variable
- Disable In-game Overlays
- Limit Max FPS
- Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
- Run The Game In Compatibility Mode
- Install or Repiar Visual C++ Redistributables
- Delete DirectX Shader Cache
Delete ReShade Entry From Registry
This particular fix is for those PC users who are experiencing Enshroused crashing at startup or the “enshrouded.exe has crashed” error. There is a particular file in your Windows registry that is causing Enshrouded to crash with the “enshrouded.exe has crashed” error message. Delete the ImplicitLayers registry folder and the error will be fixed. The “ImplicitLayers” is a reshade entry and is even present on systems where Reshade wasn’t installed. Delete this entry and the error will be fixed.
- Open Regedit
- Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\Vulkan
- Delete the “ImplicitLayers” folder
- Launch Enshrouded and the enshrouded.exe has crashed” error is fixed
Disable Integrated GPU
A lot of PC users are experiencing Enshrouded crashing at startup with the “Graphics system couldn’t be initialized” error at startup. This issue is popping up for users with laptops or systems with dedicated Nvidia GPU and AMD integrated GPU. To fix this crash, ensure that Enshrouded uses the dedicated GPU instead of the iGPU.
Nvidia
For Nvidia, open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select the game > select “High-performance Nvidia processor” under the preferred graphics option.
AMD
Open Radeon Settings > Preferences > Additional Settings > Power > Switchable Graphics Application Settings. Select the game and select the “High-Performance profile” to the game under Graphics Settings.
Disable GPU Overclock
Overclocking your hardware to get more gaming performance out of it, is one of the benefits of PC gaming. However, overclocking makes gaming an unstable experience. If you have overclocked your GPU, it’s the reason for Enshrouded’s crashes. Revert the graphics card to its default GPU and Memory clocks and the crashes will be fixed.
Enable Debug Mode
If you haven’t overclocked your GPU, chances are your GPU is factory overclocked. Also, in most cases, graphics cards from AIB partners like MSI or Zotac have higher GPU and Memory clocks compared to Nvidia’s reference models. Enable the Debug mode to force the GPU to use Nvidia’s recommended clocks and Enshrouded’s crashes will be fixed. Open the Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug Mode.

Add New Environment Variable
If Enshrouded is crashing at startup for you on a laptop or a system with AMD’s integrated GPU and Nvidia’s dedicated GPU, you need to add a new Environment Variable to the System Settings and Enshrouded won’t crash at startup.
- Type “Advanced System Settings” in Windows Search and open it
- Click “Environment Variables” under the Advanced tab
- Click “New” under System Variables
- Type “DISABLE_LAYER_AMD_SWITCHABLE_GRAPHICS_1” for the Variable Name field
- Type 1 for the Variable Value field and press OK

Disable In-game Overlays
In-game overlays are enabled by default for Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, and more. These in-game overlays interfere with the game and cause crashes. Disable in-game overlays and Enshrouded will stop crashing.
Discord:
- Open User settings
- Go to the Game Overlay tab
- Turn off the “Enable In-game overlay” options.

Steam:
- Open Setting settings
- Go to the In-Game tab
- Uncheck “Enable the Steam overlay while in-game” and press OK.

GeForce Experience:
- Open GeForce Experience
- Click on the Gear icon next to your username
- Go to the General tab
- Turn off the “IN-GAME Overlay” option

Limit Max FPS
Playing at a high or uncooked FPS puts a lot of load on the GPU and CPU. If you are playing Enshrouded at an unlocked or high FPS, it’s the reason for the crashes. Limit the game’s Max Frame Rate to reduce the CPU and GPU load and Enshrouded’s crashes will be fixed. However, I don’t recommend you use in-game FPS limiters as they often cause bad frame pacing, use Nvidia Control Panel to limit the max FPS.
- Open the Nvidia Control Panel
- Go to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings
- Select Palworld from the drop-down menu
- Scroll down and enable “Max Frame Rate” and set a value for it
Note: Unless you use a Freesync or G.sync display, your Max Frame Limit should be 1/2, 1/3rd, or 1/4th of your monitor’s refresh rate. Otherwise, the game will feel jittery.

Disable Fullscreen Optimizations
Fullscreen optimizations are enabled by default and often cause games to crash at startup. Disable Fullscreen Optimizations to fix Enshrouded’s crash at launch issue.
- Right-click Enshrouded in Steam library > Manage > Browse local files
- A new window will open containing game files
- Right-click the game executable and select Properties
- Go to the Compatibility tab, check “Disable Fullscreen optimizations” and apply the changes
- Play Enshrouded and it won’t crash at startup

Run The Game In Compatibility Mode
As I mentioned before, Enshrouded is a Steam Early Access title, at the time of writing, which means the game is still in development. The reason why it’s crashing is due to compatibility issues with the Windows 10 or 11 operating systems. Running Enshrouded in compatibility mode for an old OS will fix the crash at startup issue.
- Right-click Enshrouded in Steam library > Manage > Browse local files
- A new window will open containing game files
- Right-click the executable and select Properties
- Go to the Compatibility tab
- Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 7 from the drop-down menu
- Launch Enshrouded and it won’t crash at startup

Install or Repiar Visual C++ Redistributables
Corrupt or missing Visual C++ Redistributables is the reason for Enshrouded’s crashes at startup. Install or repair Visual C++ Redistributables and the issue will be fixed.
- Open the Steam library and type ‘Steamworks’ in the search bar
- Right-click “Steamworks Common Redistributables” > Manage > Browse local files
- A new Explorer window will open
- Go to _CommonRedist\vcredist
- There are folders with names in years starting from 2010
- Open each folder and run the VC_redis, both x64 and x86 versions
- Install or repair Visual C++ Redistributablesand restart your PC

Delete DirectX Shader Cache
The DirectX shader cache on your Windows PC is either corrupt or has compatibility issues with Enshrouded, which is why it’s crashing. Delete the DirectX shader cache and a new one will be created the next time your launch the game, fixing the crash at startup issue with Enshrouded.
- Open Windows Settings
- Go to System > Storage > Temporary files
- Check “DirectX Shader Cache” and click “Remove Files”
- Launch Enshrouded and it won’t crash
